Located about 15 minutes east of Ribadasella is the amazing beach Playa de Guadamía.
Playa de Guadamía at low tide

At high tide, there´s not much in the way of beach there and it can get pretty crowded when it´s hot, but it´s at low tide that this beach comes into its own! You can take your shoes off and walk 200m up the soft sand right to the estuary mouth and as long as you keep an eye on the tide and the currents, take a dip or explore the caves.
Walk 1 - "Senda del Rio Guadamía"
The first walk is about 3km in total and follows the river through the woods all the way to the sea. It´s got a couple of slightly tricky patches where the path has deteriorated so isn´t ideal for anyone with limited mobililty.
Starting at the car park (Aparcamiento Llames), turn left and follow the road back out of Llames for about 500m then take the road to the right, signposted "Senda del Río Guadamia".
Turn right at the Roman Bridge, following the river through the field.
Follow the path and enjoy :)
When you eventually get the to sandy patch, depending on the tide you may want to follow the path to the right back up into the village. We try to time it to coincide with low tide though so we paddle/scramble down the rocky bit of river (only 20m or so) down to the beach.
The walk back to the car is easy, following the ramp up from the beach and aiming back into the village... OR you could move onto Walk 2 and go and see the Bufones (Blowholes)
Walk 2 - Bufones de Pría
This is a much more accessible walk for anyone with more limited mobility, but please be aware that this may not be a place to let small children run freely... there many deep holes and vertiginous cliffs and no safety fences. The full circular walk can be either just over 3km (2mi) or about 5km (3mi), depending on which path back you take. If you want to see the blowholes spouting, aim to get there near high tide and keep an eye out for a good surf forecast for Ribadasella!
Starting at the car park, this time turn right and head into the village, then left towards the beach.
Follow the track above the beach along to the bufones (blowholes).
Wander all over the cliffs! There are bigger and smaller holes scattered about.
You can hear the sound of the bufones "breathing"at low tide in the second half of this video.
Magdalena's abstract painting "El Sonido del Mar 2" was inspired by our walks along the cliffs and bufones!
