Mixed media using gold leaf on canvas
 
"In 2015, shortly after arriving in Spain, I came across some bark under a palm tree. I was immediately captivated by its amazing texture and rich brown colour and carefully stashed it away but couldn't think of a way to include it in my work at that time. 

Two years later and my work has evolved to a stage where I finally feel able to begin using it! I regularly include textured base coats on my canvases, but the truly organic nature of the palm bark is a joy to work with!

As I was painting "Lost and Found:Heart and Stone", I was taken back to my childhood days; looking through piles of rocks and discovering the small hidden secrets among them. I'm still excited by the sensation of discovery!"

This original composition uses a unique combination of gold leaf, acrylic and watercolour paints, pastels and palm bark on a 3.5cm deep, gallery wrapped canvas. It is protected from dust and UV light by a thin layer of varnish. The sides are painted black, giving this artwork a highly contemporary finish. Framing is not required.
