Whilst the implication of a landscape is clear, this highly abstracted painting originally started as a study exploring a detail of "Evening Lull" before quickly evolving into a work in it's own right.
 
The viewer is guided vertically through the composition by the central section, offering a simpler, calmer route from top to bottom. When scanning from side to side however, the central section offers a chimeric respite from the powerful yet calm dynamism created by the bold earth colours.
