Inspired by my travels across central Spain in the midst of the scorching summer heat, I started using gold and silver leaf to capture some of the impact of the shimmering sun and heat hazes rising from the baked scenery.

This is one of the three original, foundation paintings that I did in this style, from which I have drawn daily inspiration ever since.
